What is the Challenge?

About the Challenge

The BG T&T Energy Challenge is a physically demanding, fund-raising event for companies in the Energy Sector and related businesses.

Teams of seven participants, inclusive of two drivers, will be required to hike selected mountain trails and complete a series of activities - all within twenty-four hours over a full weekend.  Since 2003, the event has been only in Trinidad but the 2008 event will include stages in Tobago as well. The identity of the first trail will be unknown to participants until two days before the event. After the first trail is completed, participants will be told their next objectives.

The BG T&T Energy Challenge is fashioned on the highly successful BG Energy Challenge UK series, which has so far raised in excess of 1 million pounds since its inception in 1996. In 2003, charity funds on both sides of the Atlantic received substantial boots from the success of the simultaneous staging of the energy challenge in the UK and in Trinidad and Tobago on the last weekend of June. It was the first time that the challenge was organised by any BG Asset outside the UK.

The Trinidad and Tobago event saw over 40 teams from the energy sector and a number of companies from the business community walk several challenging hikes and complete a series of team activities in 2007. Funds raised totalled approximately TT$1.5 million.

BG T&T employees and EcoAdventures of Trinidad and Tobago have coordinated the entire Challenge since 2003 and will do so again in 2008. All funds will be equally donated to Foundation for Enhancement and Enrichment of Life (FEEL) and United Way Trinidad and Tobago for disbursement to local charities throughout the country.

A key part of the events is fund-raising. Your team(s) will be required to raise money through sponsorship, raffles, sales, etc. Once the entrance fee has been paid, all additional monies will be distributed to charities through the charity organisation FEEL.

Each team is responsible for raising its contribution (above the initial entrance cost which pays for the event management) before it takes part in the actual Challenge. On the day of the event each team pledges the amount of money it expects to contribute through the various initiatives in has undertaken, and the team that pledges the most money wins a large trophy.
