United Way Mission and Vision
The mission of United Way is to improve people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.

What is United Way?
United Way International is the global organization dedicated to strengthening communities and improving lives around the world. The United Way movement includes approximately 3,000 community-based United Way organizations in over 40 countries. Each is independent, separately incorporated, and governed by local volunteers.

United Way Trinidad and Tobago (UWTT) has been launched to assist the vast network of local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and Community-Based Groups (CBO’s) in their work, facilitating new projects in their continuing effort to make a difference in the lives of people who need the most help.

What does United Way do?
United Way activates community resources to make the greatest possible human impact. In Trinidad and Tobago, charitable funds will be collected and distributed to various NGO’s and CBO’s to facilitate their work. In addition to distribution of funds United Way will also implement a system to ensure accountability, not just in terms of fund allocation and expenditure but also to assess the impact of the projects in the community.

A Community-Based National Movement
United Way Trinidad and Tobago is an independent, separately incorporated organization, governed by loyal volunteers. With the help of community leaders and existing NGO and CBO networks, United Way T&T will address the most critical local issues and mobilize resources beyond the dollars that are pledged through their fund raising efforts. Community partners will include schools, government policy makers, business, organized labor, financial institutions, voluntary and neighborhood associations, community development corporations and the religious community.

Mobilizing the Caring Power of Communities
United Way brings communities together to focus on the most important human needs-building partnerships, forging consensus and leveraging resources to make a measurable difference. Focus areas are identified at the local level and vary from community to community.

Common focus areas include: helping children and youth succeed, strengthening and supporting families, promoting self sufficiency, building vital and safe neighborhoods and supporting vulnerable and again populations.

How to give to United Way Trinidad and Tobago
Partnering with United Way is the most effective way to create lasting community change. Throughout the year, UWTT will work to understand the broad needs of individual communities and to direct resources to best meet those needs.

Many people give by participating in their United Way campaign through their companies. Donations are made on an entirely voluntary basis via paycheck deduction, whereby you decide the amount you wish to contribute to UWTT. That’s all you need to do; make a decision, fill out the donation sheet and return to your company’s accounting department or UWTT representative. With that one decision you have initiated a process that could change the lives of children in your own neighborhood.

Start a workplace campaign at your company
United Way’s annual community campaign in the workplace is the most effective way to organize your company around helping to improve the community you work and live in. United Way in your community can help you plan and implement a campaign as do we do in thousands of companies nationwide. If you’re interested in finding more information about how you can start a United Way campaign at your company contact United Way Trinidad and Tobago to get in touch with campaign planners in your community.
